How StudyLock handles your family’s information
Last updated 28 October 2026. Written to be read in one sitting, without legal jargon.
StudyLock is a study gate for family devices. A parent creates the account, sets up a profile for each child, and decides what has to be answered before the device unlocks. This page explains what we collect to make that work, why we need it, and the choices you have.
Who we are
StudyLock is operated by the independent team behind StudyLock. For the purposes of this policy, “we” and “us” mean StudyLock; “you” means the parent or guardian who creates and looks after the account.
Information we collect
- Parent account information. Your name (if you provide it), email address, a password that is stored in hashed form, and your sign-in method if you choose to sign in with Google.
- Child account information. A first name or nickname, grade level, and an optional avatar and colour chosen by the parent. We do not ask for a child’s email address, photo, birthday, school or location.
- Study session and activity data. Which child opened the study gate, when it opened, how long the unlock lasted, which subjects were drawn, how many questions were answered, and whether the answers were right on the first try.
- Quiz and learning performance data. Practice rounds, daily challenges, badges, streaks, points and learning goals, so you can see how practice is going over time.
- Device and usage analytics. General technical details such as device type, browser, app version, timestamps and a region-level location derived from your connection, plus basic usage events (for example, that an account was created or a gate was opened). Device identifiers are used only for this app’s own analytics and to keep your account secure.
- Payment information. Subscription and purchase records, plus a receipt email address. Card details are entered with our payment provider and never reach StudyLock.
- Messages you send us. If you use the Contact page, we keep your name, email address and message so we can reply.
How we use your information
- To create and run parent and child accounts, and to manage screen access rules.
- To write grade-level questions and track learning progress over time.
- To provide account support when you ask for help.
- To keep your account secure and prevent misuse of the service.
- To send service messages, such as verification codes and password resets.
- To understand which parts of the app are working, using aggregated usage counts.
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Children and parental control
StudyLock is intended for use by children under parental supervision. Accounts are created and owned by an adult, and children sign in only on a device their parent has set up.
For parents, this means:
- You can add, edit or delete a child profile at any time from your dashboard, along with the study rules attached to it.
- You can see all activity recorded for your children, and you can delete past study sessions and practice rounds.
- You can ask us to delete a child’s data, or your entire account and its data, using the Contact page. We respond within 30 days.
- We do not require, and ask you not to add, personal details beyond a first name or nickname for a child.
When a child profile is deleted or the account is closed, the study data for that child is deleted with it.
How long we keep data
Account, child and study data is kept while your account is active, so your progress history stays intact. When you close your account or ask us to delete data, we remove it within 30 days, except for records we must keep for tax, accounting or fraud prevention, which are retained only as long as required.
Keeping it safe
Passwords are stored hashed, access to your family’s records is limited to your account, and connections to StudyLock are encrypted. No online service can promise perfect security, but we work to protect your information and will tell you if a breach ever affects your account.
Your choices
- Update your name, email and child profiles from the app.
- Delete individual sessions and practice rounds from your progress history.
- Ask for a copy of your data, or ask us to correct or delete it.
- Close your account at any time.
To use any of these, or to make a data deletion request, use the Contact page.
Changes to this policy
If we make a meaningful change, we will update the date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, let account holders know by email.
Contact us
Questions about privacy, or a request to delete data? Reach us through the Contact page and choose “Privacy” as the subject where offered. We reply within 30 days.
Reachable from inside the app
App stores require a privacy policy that users can open from the app itself. This page is linked from the footer of every signed-in screen, from the public pages, and from the sign-up and log-in screens, so it stays one tap away.
